webtv - watch live TV

Script for TV-viewing-pleasure.

webtv shows you a list of tv-stations (if you don't give one on the command line). The list is shown using yad.

screenshot

The selected stream is played with mpv or vlc, whichever is installed. If both are, mpv is preferred.

The list of stations is taken from the package radio_tv_stations.

usage: webtv [OPTIONS] [[-s] station]

     OPTIONS:
     -f|--fullscreen start video fullscreen
     -h|--help show this help screen
-m|--mpv use vlc (default if installed)
     -s|--station s watch station s
     -v|--version show version and exit
-V|--vlc use vlc instead of mpv (if installed)
     -z|--zap don't exit after viewing a station
--liststations print list of available stations
                        (used for bash-completion)

Dependencies

On Arch Linux, all dependencies are automatically installed if you install webtv via makepkg -sic.

webtv checks on program start, if all needed tools are installed. If one is missing, webtv will complain.

Here is a list with the needed packages.

program Arch package
radio_tv_stations radio_tv_stations
mpv (recommended) mpv
vlc (optional) vlc
wmctrl (optional) wmctrl
yad yad
